In traditional Mithila it is called “Gauri Pujan lai phool torait Kaniya” (Maithili Language) meaning “Bride plucking for worshiping Goddess Gauri”. The married ladies of Mithila worship  Goddess Gauri with lot of devotion for the well being of their husbands. This painting carries lot of significance especially during the “Madhushrawani” an important festival  especially for new brides in the month of July/ August through auspicious 15 days where they worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Gauri (Parvati) and their love and devotion for each other.
