The piano is in the museum in conjunction with the exhibition Painting Is My Everything: Art from India’s Mithila Region. Nishith, a New Jersey–based artist who was born in the Mithila region in India, decorated the piano with motifs traditional in Mithila art, including birds, animals, flowers, leaves and an image of the earth goddess. We hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to strike a key or give an impromptu concert on this extraordinary piano.
While you are here, be sure to check out artwork by Nishith on sale in the museum store.
Sep 7–Dec 30, 2018: The piano will be accessible during regular museum hours (Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and does not require paid admission.
