Mithila / Madhubani Paintings handpainted on recycled Can

These are tin cookie cans which have been recycled and painted to be used as decor. Motifs of Mithila / Madhubani painting have been hand painted to decorate the Cans.

The highlighted features of paintings are of Krishna-Radha (white base) , Lotus (Red base) , Peacock (Purple base), Shankh (Greeen base) , Godna Dolls (Blue base ). The style of design have been tried to be with modern twists with the traditional motifd of Mithila paintings.

Cans were  washed and sanded to remove the food particles, dust, paint etc. The base coat of primer was put on all the cans. Acrylic paint, Enamel paint and Brush have been use for the details in the paintings. Final coat of clear varnish was used to seal the paint. Since lots of coat of paint was used I am not sure it may be used to store food items though inner side was not painted. However they can easily go with any decor.

Had made these some time back though couldn’t post here.

Mithila paintings as doodles on phone (Lotus and Peacock) https://www.creativemithila.com/mithila-paintings-as-doodles-on-phone-lotus-and-peacock/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=mithila-paintings-as-doodles-on-phone-lotus-and-peacock https://www.creativemithila.com/mithila-paintings-as-doodles-on-phone-lotus-and-peacock/#comments Thu, 11 Jun 2015 18:39:26 +0000 https://creativemithila.wordpress.com/?p=1966

Made these sometime back couldn’t post them here. These are doodles made on smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with the help of S-Pen.

First let me explain the paintings :
Lotus:
The painting is of Lotus on Paan leaf along with the motifs of peacock and other designs in background and borders in the theme of Mithila / Madhubani Paintings. Lotus on Paan leaf painting is considered auspicious in Mithila and made in the Aripan (floor painting) during the Bhratridwitya (Bhai Dooj) festival.

Peacock:
The painting is of Peacock along with the motifs of flowers and leaves in background and borders in the theme of Mithila / Madhubani Paintings. This is a common painting made as fillers in Mithila.

These paintings have been digitally made on smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with the help of S-Pen. Autodesk Sketchbook app was used to make these paintings. This style is a fresh move in the field of digital Mithila / Madhubani Paintings. Here the outcome of the paintings are almost similar to those made by brush and paint. Thess painting can be printed on any material in size proportional to the dimensions of the paintings.

Mode: Digital Painting
Tool: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and it’s S-Pen.

Mithila Paintings by Nupur Nishith are on display at Spring Art Show by the Bayonne Art Circle from April 18th-22nd, 2015 at the Bayonne Community Museum in Bayonne, New Jersey, USA.

The paintings exhibited during the festival are

  1. Krishna Radha Romance in Mithila Painting
  2. “Girl admiring the Bloom in Spring” in the style of Mithila Art
  3. Surya (Sun) in Mithila (Digital printed on Canvas)

(For details like theme, mode, tools about each painting please click on the respective links)

The paintings received a overwhelming appreciation from all the Art Lovers who visited. Participated in the exhibition after a significant gap, so there were a lot of new visitors. People admired the the the detail work with colours in the paintings. Since a lot of visitors were new to the style of art form so there were a lot of questions like how is it done, how much time does it take, how thin is the brush etc.

These are initial stages in this country. So a good learning experience.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Surya (Sun) in Mithila (Digital printed on Canvas) https://www.creativemithila.com/surya-sun-in-mithila-digital-printed-on-canvas/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=surya-sun-in-mithila-digital-printed-on-canvas https://www.creativemithila.com/surya-sun-in-mithila-digital-printed-on-canvas/#comments Thu, 09 Apr 2015 04:23:54 +0000 https://creativemithila.wordpress.com/?p=1934

Back after a hiatus. This time with a fresh tool and style for the motifs of Mithila /Madhubani Paintings.

The painting is of Sun along with the motifs of flowers and leaves in background and borders in the theme of Mithila / Madhubani Paintings. As I have mentioned in my earlier posts, in Mithila, Sun is worshiped as a God. So the paintings of Sun are also in human form with a human face. The colour has been highlighted with Yellow as the light from the Sun makes it to appear.

Sun is considered as the symbol of Positivity, Light, Truthfulness etc.

This painting has been digitally made on smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with the help of S-Pen and printed on Canvas. This style is a fresh move in the field of digital Mithila / Madhubani Paintings. Here the outcome of the paintings are almost similar to those made by brush and paint. This painting could also be printed on other materials.  Here, the size of the canvas in the picture is 24 inch x 24 inch.

Surya, Chandrama, Navagrah , Shashti (Sun, Moon, Nine planets and Shashti (Goddess of Nature) in Mithila / Madhubani Paintings.

In this painting, major elements from Solar System, Sun, Moon and Nine Planets along with Shashtika , Goddess of Shristi (Nature / Creation) have been digitally painted in the motifs of Mithila / Madhubani Painting. These are symbolic representations

Traditionally in Mithila Paintings, many themes and motifs have been inspired from Nature. Sun, Moon, Universe, Animals, Birds, Plants, various objects etc were painted often in various forms in both Aripans (Floor paintings)  and Bhitti Chittra (Wall paintings) as mode of symbolic participation of all as blessings in the occasion.

Surya (Sun) , Chandrama (Moon), Navagraha (Nine Planets) and Shashthi (Goddess of Shristi ( Nature / Creation)) are commonly made in most of the Aripan (Floor Painting ) and some of Wall Paintings especially during the various rituals during and after weddings, eg. in Kohbar on wall during wedding , the aripan made during the rituals of Vat Savitri, Madhushravani, and many others. It is considered as blessings from Sun, Moon, Nine Planets and Goddess Shashtika, who is symbolically considered as Goddess of Shristi (Nature / Creation).  These along with Gaur (not present in this painting) are also considered as symbol of  the “Panch Tatva” ( 5 elements which construct the Human body as per Hindu Mythology ).

In Mithila painting, objects are also considered even symbolically in human form. So in these paintings , they have mostly a face with eyes, nose, mouth, ears etc. Since Sun is symbolically round so the face of the Sun has been kept round circle while the face of Moon is commonly made as semi circle as the shape keeps changing. In Navagrah, there are Nine pointers on the head for the Nine planets. Traditionally Goddess Shashtika has been made with Six pointers on the head. It may be because “Shashthi” means “Six” in Sanskrit.

In this painting, there is a slight drift from the traditional style in terms of colouring. However, in Aripans (Floor painting) and traditional Bhitti Chitra (Wall Paintings)  they were mostly single colour either, White or Yellow Pithar on floor or Red, Yellow or colours on wall. Additionally in order to decorate the wall paintings, they were filled with colours too. The essence has been kept intact with the main designs in black and white though coloured the background in other colours.  This was done to slightly add a contemporary twist to the traditional motifs in the painting .

Halloween Greeting in Mithila / Madhubani Painting

On the occasion of Halloween , I have made this greetings card. The greeting card has been decorated with the elements of the festival in the style and motifs of Mithila / Madhubani Painting .

Halloween is celebrated every year in many countries on 31st October,  the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day. Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related “guising”), attending costume parties, decorating, carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted house attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories and watching horror films.

In this greeting I have tried to highlight the popular carved Pumpkins faces. As the festivals are celebrated during the Falls season, I have tried to include the popular coloured leaves from Fall foliage.

Since these are original concept as my symbolic interpretation of an element of the festival in the style and motifs of Mithila / Madhubani Paintings.

People may differ in their views. So opinions are most welcome.
