I designed this Wedding Card in Mithila / Madhubani style for a wedding where the Bride comes from Bihar, India and the Groom from Assam ,India. As in the wedding this card highlights the amalgamation of two cultures their rituals and practices in India.
The design of the Card starts with the Blessings of Lord Ganesh on the top with symbolic Swastik amidst the sound of Shankh. The central part depicts the symbolic marriage where the Bride is dressed up in traditional Bihari finery with the style of drape of the embroidery Saree and the Groom in traditional Assamese style with garland made of tulsi leaves , traditional Shawl (Gamosa), Kurta and Dhoti. Traditional Assamese Jaapi too makes its presence to complete the look. Lotus (Kamal) an auspicious symbol of prosperity is also present as a design in the Saree of the Bride. The bottom part of the Card is highlighted with the presence of auspicious wedding symbols in both Bihar and Assam, Kalash with Mango Leaves and the auspicious Fish, symbol of growth of life. Traditional “Xorai” tray of Assam has also marked its presence here. The border of top and bottom segment have the presence of Betel Leaves (Paan) and Areca Nut (Supari / Tamul) an auspicious symbol practiced in both Bihari and Assamese Weddings.

Mithila Paintings are mostly driven by their concept and explanation as the elements present are symbolic representations with a meaning presented amongst those colours and designs.

July 23, 2013 - 8:52 am ·Thats great Ankita. Congrats to your sister for her Wedding.
There are two ways you can design. Either go for a digital painting through some design software. This needs some familiarity with design softwares. Another is to make a handmade painting in exact dimensions, get a photograph or screen made and get it printed. If you speak to your printer they can help you with the technicalities of screen printing. Either ways you chose have excellent results.
If you want to have further details please let me know.

November 5, 2013 - 3:19 am ·Hi Nupur I am a South Indian and I was wondering if you could design a wedding card for me. I am looking for a simple design with just a madhubani border. This could be a central motif or just a border. Could you suggest some ideas? Thanks Nanditha
